Emily (Amherst, Masschusetts. 1830-1886) 1700 poemas, de muchos de ellos breves de rima regular y métrica simple en unas pocas combinaciones de versos yámbicos de tres o cuatro pies, siempre en torno del amor, la naturaleza, la fe y la muerte. Solo un par de ellos fueron publicados en vida (presuntamente sin su consentimiento) aunque solia circularlos entre algunos allegados. Publicar no era, para la gran poeta, parte esencial del escritor. ¿Había en esta actitud suya un respeto por su padre, contrario a que las mujeres publicaran sus escritos? Acaso por este decreto machista de su progenitor y para precaver sus monsergas siempre se refirió a “imprimir”, jamas a “publicar”, un implícito reconocimiento de que sus poemas eran leídos por terceros.
