Reseña : Su investigación ha sido principalmente en la teoría de las funciones y de las ecuaciones diferenciales, pero él ha hecho valiosas contribuciones a las matemáticas aplicadas y, en particular, a la sismología teórica y todo su trabajo se ha caracterizado por un amplio punto de vista científico y lo ha hecho más que cualquier otro matemático soviético principal mantener y fortalecer las conexiones entre las matemáticas y la física.
