La segunda edición de Planeta Azul: Una introducción a la Ciencia del Sistema Terrestre trata ciencias de la tierra desde una perspectiva sistémica, mostrando cómo las cuatro esferas (litosfera, hidrosfera, atmósfera, biosfera) están relacionados entre sí. En esta edición, se pone un énfasis significativo en el ciclismo de materiales y energía, y las interacciones entre las esferas.
