This work contains an overview of the scientific achievements and scientific life of Piet who has joined Our Computational Mechanics group in 2007. after employed in Other groups at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of Delft University of Technology (DI_YT). Piet started working al the DUT in 1963.
already before he completed his MSc in 1965. in the division of Concrete and Concrete Structures and after that he joined the Materials Science and Mechanics Sections Being a research assistant in the beginning period, he also worked on his PhD thesis. which he successfully defended in 1973, Later on he became associate professor and was awarded a part-time honorary professorship at the presently-called Belling Jiaotong University in China. Since this extremely active research period at
the DUT now covers more than years. it is a good moment to present this book, which is mainly a flash-back of that period. but at the same gives an outlook to future research developments.
